The Preliminary English Test (PET) is the Cambridge ESOL examination for people who can use everyday written and spoken English at an Intermediate level. Successful candidates receive a Cambridge certificate recognised by employers worldwide. A PET certificate is valid for life. You will not need to take the exam again.

At IH Doha, our PET courses are carefully planned to prepare students with the essential language for use in work, study and social situations. The course is structured to include the necessary exam skills for reading, writing, listening and speaking.

 

The syllabus includes practice in:

    reading and understanding the main points of texts from journals, newspapers and magazines
    using the required vocabulary and structure to complete writing tasks such as short messages, emails or a story, of around 100 words
    completing exercises involving changing the meaning of sentences
    understanding the meaning of a range of recorded spoken material
    speaking English by taking part in conversations, asking and answering questions, talking freely about likes and dislikes
    essential exam skills.
