Teacher of the Year

The winners of the Best Teacher

Mr. Ead Salman Batarseh,  born in Amman in  1947. In 1966 I finished high school, and then studied English language and literature at the University of Jordan and got my B.A. in 1970. Fortunate to have been exposed to and taught by many a good teacher – a race that has always been a rarity – I thought highly of teaching and never hesitated to pick it as my career when I had the chance to do so. That was in 1970 when I joined the Ministry of Education as a teacher of English at a Secondary School in Sahab. I spent two years there teaching and learning on the job. That last characteristic has remained with me all the time, and helped  me develop professionally when I later joined the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as a Bilingual ITC Teacher, Radio Jordan as an announcer/producer and then the Riyadh Development Authority, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a translator. I rejoined Radio Jordan in 1986, and restructured my past job as announcer/ producer, and when I retired in 2007, I was the Deputy Director of the Foreign Service of Radio Jordan, and the Acting Director of the said service. Further, in Amman, and ever since 1977, I have had the honour to be accepted as a part-time teacher of English at the Modern Language Center (MLC), where, over the years, I taught all levels of English, including the TOEFL preparation course. My memories at the MLC, where I taught and learnt a lot, will always be cherished and relished as fruitful, pleasant and meaningful time with friends and brothers, whose presence give taste and redolence to life.

My skills fall within the scope of reading, writing and speaking both Arabic and English very well; teaching English as a foreign language; reporting,  editing and newscasting; and  translating from Arabic into English and vice versa. I have always enjoyed shouldering the tasks handed over to me, and, in particular, I have a penchant for teaching. Now I teach Classical Arabic, basically translation, at three reputed educational institutions in Amman: the National Orthodox School, the Baptist School, and recently the New English School. A classroom situation, where I blend with students and become one of them, will always remain fascinating to me -  a memory to be my comrade that I will hold dear through out my life.

I am an open-minded avid reader with a genuine care for knowledge and love for all people– a trait which graced my life with many a friend and a rare, but harmless "foe".
